Dr. Brenda Melton is a graduate of Saint Louis University with degrees in nursing, counseling and a doctorate in Marriage and Family Therapy. In her dissertation research she interviewed couples to better understand their experiences with weight gain, weight loss treatment and weight loss.
Dr. Melton has post doctorate training in Psychodynamic Therapy from the St. Louis Psychoanalytic Institute and in Cognitive Therapy with Dr. David Burns. She has also studied couples therapy with leaders in the field, such as Dr. John and Julie Gottman. She holds several certifications. Dr. Melton examines theory, practice, and individuals through her Christian lens.
Clinical expertise includes nursing, administration, and counseling throughout the healthcare continuum. Inpatient program experiences include, Stress and Anxiety, Borderline and Med Psych Units at Mercy Medical Center. During Dr. Melton’s career at Mercy, she developed the first outpatient psychiatric and dual diagnosis programs. She has nearly twenty years of private practice experience.
Tele-behavioral Therapy is part of the wide range of services she offers. Dr. Melton provides counseling for pastors and their families. While she provides treatment for a wide range of behavioral health concerns, Dr. Melton is passionate about issues concerning compassion fatigue, religious hurt, trauma, and recovery.
In her professional career, Dr. Melton served as president of the MO Group Psychotherapy Society and served on the national board of the American Group Psychotherapy Association in New York City. She has presented at professional conferences. Dr. Melton is available for workshops and speaking on several topics she refers to as Therapy Insights for Living Better. Most recently, Dr. Melton has been an adjunct professor in a graduate counseling program. She has served as a consultant for several not-for-profit entities, including writing articles of incorporation, bylaws, and website editing.
